Brownstown Fire Protection District (BFPD) covers an 88-square mile area in and around Brownstown, IL. This area of South-Central Illinois is a rural area, containing small communities and farms; additionally, there is a large amount of highway traffic on Interstate 70, US Route 40, and Illinois State Route 185.
Our roster currently includes twenty-nine volunteer firefighter positions and six additional medical first responder positions. We provide fire protection and medical assistance to the 750 residents of the Village of Brownstown, and the approximately 2,500 residents living in the district's rural area. The department also provides mutual aid to neighboring fire departments.
The department currently owns two pumpers, one tanker, one pickup/brush truck, one support van,and a generator/lighting trailer
. The newest addition to our fleet is a 2009 Hackney Rescue Truck
